The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing project planning, scheduling, and monitoring activities to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, analyzing data, and providing strategic planning insights to ensure optimal resource allocation and project progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning & Scheduling:

    • Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules, including timelines, work breakdown structures (WBS), and milestone tracking.
    • Utilize planning software like Primavera P6/MS Project to create schedules that meet project specifications and stakeholder expectations.
    • Establish critical path analysis and provide project teams with insights to keep projects on track.
  2. Progress Monitoring & Reporting:

    • Monitor and track project progress, identifying any deviations from the plan and recommending corrective actions.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, risks, and schedule variances.
    • Conduct regular meetings with project teams to ensure alignment and update on schedule performance.
  3. Resource Management:

    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure optimal resource allocation for various projects.
    • Identify resource needs and constraints, proposing adjustments as necessary to meet project timelines.
  4. Risk Analysis & Mitigation:

    • Identify potential risks affecting project schedules and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Conduct schedule risk analysis using quantitative techniques and provide recommendations to minimize impacts on project timelines.
  5. Stakeholder Communication:

    • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication of project schedules and progress.
    • Serve as a key point of contact for planning and scheduling information, providing technical guidance and support.
  6. Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities to improve planning processes and implement best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry standards and advancements in planning methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, and control, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
  • Proficiency in planning software like Primavera P6 and MS Project.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret project data and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PSP (Planning and Scheduling Professional), or equivalent.
  • Experience in [Insert Industry, e.g., construction, oil & gas, infrastructure].
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies such as Agile, Lean, etc.
