The Plant Manager for the Plant & Machinery Department will oversee the day-to-day operations of all plant and machinery activities within the company’s construction projects. This role is responsible for managing and maintaining the machinery fleet, ensuring the optimal performance of all equipment, and minimizing downtime. The Plant Manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Management:

    • Oversee the daily operation of construction plant and machinery, ensuring all equipment is functioning optimally and efficiently.
    • Plan and organize equipment and machinery for construction projects, coordinating with project managers and other departments.
    • Monitor the usage of machinery, ensuring proper allocation across different projects.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Ensure that all machinery undergoes regular maintenance and timely repairs.
    • Establish a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize breakdowns and extend the lifespan of the machinery.
    • Coordinate with internal or external technicians and service providers for repairs and maintenance services.
  3. Fleet Management:

    • Monitor and manage the fleet of construction machinery and ensure that machinery is well-maintained, compliant with regulations, and fit for use.
    • Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and other materials required for machine upkeep.
    • Oversee the procurement of new machinery or the replacement of old, inefficient equipment.
  4. Safety & Compliance:

    • Ensure that all machinery adheres to local safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
    • Monitor safety practices, providing ongoing safety training to operators and staff.
    • Conduct regular safety audits to ensure machinery is operating in a safe and compliant manner.
  5. Budget and Cost Control:

    • Prepare and manage the department’s budget, focusing on minimizing costs related to repairs, maintenance, fuel consumption, and machinery downtime.
    • Monitor fuel consumption and ensure cost-effective operations of machinery.
    • Identify areas for cost savings without compromising the quality of the equipment and service.
  6. Staff Management:

    • Lead and manage a team of machinery operators, technicians, and maintenance staff.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, training, and development activities for the plant and machinery department staff.
    • Ensure a high level of team performance, motivation, and productivity.
  7. Vendor and Supplier Management:

    • Manage relationships with external vendors and suppliers for parts, machinery services, and rental equipment.
    • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to ensure favorable terms and quality service.
  8. Reporting & Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of machinery usage, maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections.
    • Provide regular reports to senior management regarding fleet performance, costs, and machinery status.
    • Develop and implement effective systems for tracking and managing machinery assets.
